PARTY PLANNING AND ACCESSORIZING IN A FLORAL FLASH
Dress up your table! Create a theme!
Use ribbon over your tablecloth to divide it lengthwise and across, and create instant place settings. If you are using a round table, have the ribbon cross or gather in the middle. Wrap silverware in napkins and use the same ribbons to tie a bow arround the napkins.
Take a wreath and place it, face side up, on the center of the table (or the head of the table if serving a buffet). Place a serving bowl on it. Twist coordinating silk flowers to create napkin holders. Enhance the flower mood by placing flower petals on the tablecloth.
Use a tall glass vase and fill with lemons and limes. Lightly score the fruits so that the aroma seeps through. Drill stryofoam lemons and limes (about 1" hole) and slip the napkins through. Coordinate your tableware using yellow and lime green tablecloths.
Use clay containers as serving bowls for chips and dips. Use a liner or plastic wrap before pouring the dip. Place your forks, knives and spoons in other clay pots. If partying outside, tie little clay pots to four corners of the tablecloth. It'll help keep it down on windy days. Use an array of clay pots to hold candles, and drill the bottoms of 1 1/2" to 2" pots to use as napkin holders. If you have some time on your hands, create designs
on the pots with masking tape - like stripes or squares, or wherever your imagination takes you. Brush paint on or spray paint. Then remove the tape. Viola! Or, have a pot painting party! Your guests can create their own designs!
But if you are in a fishy kind of mood, you can use a punch bowl with water and real goldfish as a centerpiece! Use grasses and weedy type materials to create a faux habitat outside the bowl. Tie napkins with raffia and use postcards from fun places as place cards. Have baggies handy so that your guests - especially the young ones - can take the goldfish home.
And flowers, of course. Group three vases together in the center or on each side of the table and fill with wild flowers. Use different media for the vases...different colors, different sizes. Coordinate with mix-and-match dishes. Color it beautiful!
